At the Arctic Circle Assembly 2023 in Reykjavik Nord University and the University of Alaska Anchorage signed an agreement to strengthen cooperation.

On October 20, Minik Rosing became the winner of the third Frederik Paulsen Arctic Academic Action Award (FP Award). Though he received the award in 2023, the groundwork for his winning initiative was laid almost a decade ago.

The first workshop of the project entitled “ARCSUS+SDG: Governing Arctic Urban Sustainability through the lens of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals” was held as a pre-event linked to the Arctic Circle Assembly held from October 19-22, 2023.

The 16th Polar Law Symposium was organized by the Kári á Rógvi Institute for Law and Legal Research of the University of the Faroe Islands and held in Tórshavn, the capital of the Faroe Islands. The Symposium took place on 26-28 October 2023. The UArctic Thematic Network on Arctic Law partners with organizers hosted the event.

The UArctic Chair in Arctic Legal Research and Education, in collaboration with the Northern Institute for Environmental and Minority Law and the UArctic Law Thematic Network, organized a breakout session at the 10th Arctic Circle Assembly held on 19-21 October 2023.

A special dossier guest-edited by Dr. Nafisa Yeasmin (University of Lapland), Research Director (emer.) Elli Heikkilä (Migration Institute), and Prof. Satu Uusiautti (University of Lapland) explores the experiences of ethnic minorities residing in the North.

Intern at UArctic-International Secretariat Linda Lyberth Kristiansen, gave a speech at Arctic Circle Assembly 2023, in the session about Inuit Circumpolar Council Protocols for Equitable and Ethical Engagement.

The preparations for the Rovaniemi Arctic Spirit conference are almost complete. In November, the event will make Rovaniemi the focal point for Arctic discussion in Finland.

One can hardly cast an eye on the Arctic press or attend an Arctic-themed conference the last eighteen months without encountering breathy, earnest encomiums to the Arctic Council.

The Arctic Data Center invites registration for their Reproducible Approaches to Arctic Data Using R Workshop. This online workshop will take place on 26 February–1 March 2024.

Session on NOMAD Indigenous FoodLab at the Arctic Circle Assembly 2023 was held on October 20 in Reykjavik, with Indigenous representatives, youth and experts.
