Marjo Lindroth, a postdoctoral researcher from Arctic Centre, University of Lapland visited Ilisimatusarfik/the University of Greenland in Nuuk and Ilulissat in Greenland.


UiT The Arctic University of Norway has a PhD position vacant from January, 2018 for applicants who wish to obtain the degree of Philosophiae Doctor (PhD). The position is attached to the Faculty of Science and Technology. The appointment is for a period of four years. Link to posting.

The proceedings of the UArctic Congress 2016, The Interconnected Arctic, has been named by Springer as one of its top downloaded publications of 2017 with over 24,000 downloads, compared to the average of 7,000 downloads for similar titles.

The theme of the 2018 edition is “Arctic Development: In Theory & In Practice”. Deadline for abstracts: 1 March 2018 (250-400 words). Draft papers should be sent in by 15 June 2018 (4000-6000 words).

The University of the Arctic Research Office invites British researchers to take part in the international workshop within the project “Development of the UK-Russia Arctic Research and Collaboration Network”, funded by the Foreign & Commonwealth Office and the UK Embassy in Russia.


The ARTEK International Conference 2018 (May 1-3, 2018 in Sisimiut, Greenland) offers an opportunity to present, discuss and exchange ideas and experiences on how to plan, design, construct, operate and maintain transportation infrastructure in cold regions. Deadline for abstracts has been extended to January 15, 2018.

The 15th International Summer School in Karelia (ISSK) will take place in Petrozavodsk, Russia on 14–19 May 2018. The main theme of the Summer School is "Discourses and political dimensions on the Arctic and the Barents Region – disciplinary theories and methods of Arctic studies".
