Laboratory of Thermal Physiology, Oulu

Internationally unique climatic facilities for thermal and physical exercise research. Two climatic chambers (-45 - 45 °C), a wind tunnel (-45 - 45 °C, wind 0-10 m/s). Two immersion pools (1 - 40 °C). 

Internationally unique climatic laboratories were constructed in 1993 in FIOH’s facilities in Oulu. Renovation of equipment was performed in 2020.  Infrastructure of the thermal laboratory is suitable for eg., physiological, medical, clothing physiological and technological R&D activities. Immersion pools are suitable to testing immersion suits and personal flotation devices. This service is also accredited by FINAS. Specialized research staff is working in the laboratory. Extensive instrumentation in the laboratory allows measurements of human thermal, neuromuscular, cardiovascular, respiratory and energetic responses, working capacity and recovery.
