The new intern Inesa Matuliauskaite is originally from Prienai, Lithuania, but after graduating from high school started her education in Denmark. She finished her Bachelor degree in the field of International sales and Marketing in the north of Jutland and started studying Culture, Communication and Globalization with specialization in Arctic studies at Aalborg University after that.

Inesa remembers that her interest towards the Arctic started already in childhood: “When I first saw a movie about people who rode dog sleds in frozen wild nature, it sparked my infantile curiosity. (I will not lie, afterwards I even convinced my parents to train our family dog to the sleigh!)“ Now she thinks that it is essential to provide different perspectives on issues in the Arctic in the period of history when global players such as nation-states, supranational entities and multinational companies are increasingly interested in Arctic conditions and are investing resources in the region.

During her studies Inesa realized that in order to combine her interest to the Arctic, knowledge in marketing and passion to photography, the UArctic Thematic Networks office would be one of the best places to do her internship. Inesa’s internship at the the Thematic Networks and Research Liaison office will continue for three months, until November.
