The position is attached to the Department of Aquatic BioSciences. The successful candidate will work with the research team of Paul Wassmann and the ARCTOS research network, which focuses on arctic and sub-arctic marine ecosystems. A close collaboration with paleoceanographers at the Department of Geology, University of Tromsø is also foreseen.
 
The successful candidate will mainly study living planktonic foraminifera and associate micro plankton in arctic and sub-arctic seas, including transects between Northern Norway-Svalbard and East Greenland. The work will include marine biological cruises with collection of plankton samples, quantification and identification of planktonic foraminifera and associated plankton, and stable oxygen and carbon isotope analysis.
 
Applicants must document knowledge in marine biology and/or marine geology at PhD level or equivalent. Expertise in plankton ecology, oceanography, and statistics will be acknowledged. Applications must be accompanied by a proposal for the qualifying work and shall include a work schedule. The successful applicant must be willing to engage himself/herself in the ongoing development of his/her discipline and the university as a whole.
